East Java is a provincial region located in the eastern part of Java Island, Indonesia. The capital city is Surabaya City. The area is 48,033 km², with a population of 41,644,099 people (in 2023) and a population density of 867 people/km2.
Almost a quarter of the population of East Java lives in the Surabaya metropolitan area.
East Java has a number of tourist attractions. One of the tourist icons of East Java Province is Mount Bromo, which is inhabited by the Tengger tribe, where the Kasada ceremony is held every year. In the Tengger Mountains area there is also the Madakaripura Waterfall which was Mahapatih Gajah Mada's last retreat before serving the Majapahit Kingdom.
Madakaripura waterfall has a height of around 200 meters, which makes this waterfall the highest on the island of Java and the second highest in Indonesia. Apart from that, there is a natural waterfall tourist attraction that is no less interesting, namely Sedudo Waterfall which is located on the slopes of Mount Wilis, Nganjuk Regency. This waterfall is 105 meters high and has its own uniqueness, such as being able to make you stay young if we often bathe in the waterfall.
This Sedudo, and here every year there is a Javanese traditional ceremony called the Siraman Sedudo Ceremony. There is a special food at the Sedudo Waterfall tourist attraction, namely "Nganjuk's signature Corn Rice with Balur as a side dish."
